We Were Left Homeless Because of Poor Communication
Last week, someone’s lack of communication failed us.
After just 24 hours on the market, our home sold. It was both amazing and nerve-racking. We had only 14 days to find a temporary place before our new home would be ready.
So, we got to work. We found a short-term rental and told the realtor:
“We’re leaving the country. We have an inspection at 9 AM tomorrow. We’ll give you a firm yes or no after that. Please let us know if anyone else asks to tour the place.”
She replied, “No problem!”
But she never called.
When we texted to confirm our YES, she said:
“I’m sorry. I took someone else’s deposit.”
Wait. What?
She promised to keep us updated, but she didn’t. And now, we had nowhere to go.
The Reminder
This isn’t just a story. It’s a reminder.
Be the person who over-communicates.
Be the person who follows through.
Be the person who picks up the phone, even when it’s uncomfortable.
In a world of noise, automation, and AI, humans who keep their word stand out more than ever.
Why Communication Matters
Clear, consistent communication is your reputation.
It’s the signature on your work.
It’s how clients decide if they trust you.
At The Hive™, this is something I teach with my whole heart. Because great creative work paired with poor communication? That’s not a sustainable business.
The Question for You
So ask yourself:
Are you showing up as someone who under-communicates and under delivers?
Or someone who communicates clearly, leads with integrity, and gives more than promised?
Let’s be the second kind. Every time.
